Western Canada Retina Retreat 2019
Western Canada Retina Retreat 2019 will take place in Banff, Alberta on July 28, 2019. This meeting will provide a full-day forum for collegial group learning on current and emerging strategies in the diagnosis and management of retinal disorders. The program will focus on interactive discussion of a range of medical and surgical cases presented by the conference participants.
Learning Objectives
- Distinguish the principles behind various tests (e.g. fluorescein angiography, autofluorescence, optical coherence tomography) and apply corresponding findings to common retinal disorders
- Recognize the clinical presentation of rare retinal disorders
- Review recent advances in the treatment and prevention of retinal disorders

Objectifs d’apprentissage

- d’examiner les concepts novateurs dans les domaines de l’intelligence artificielle, de l’imagerie chirurgicale en 3D, de l’analyse péri-opératoire et des biomarqueurs cliniques
- d’analyser l’imagerie multimodale afin de mieux comprendre les concepts anatomiques et les corrélations pathologiques pour de nombreuses affections rétiniennes
- d’examiner la nouvelle nomenclature et les paradigmes d’évaluation lorsqu’on utilise une source à balayage, la TCO, l’angiographie avec TCO et les technologies d’imagerie à champ large

Ce programme est conçu pour répondre aux besoins en matière de formation des spécialistes et des détenteurs de bourses d’études de la rétine.

Le symposium canadien d’imagerie ophtalmique est une activité d’apprentissage collectif agréée (section 1), au sens que lui donne le programme de Maintien du certificat du Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada; elle a été approuvée par la Société canadienne d’ophtalmologie. Les participants peuvent déclarer un maximum de 10.5 heures (les crédits sont calculés automatiquement).
En vertu d’une entente conclue entre le Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada et l’American Medical Association, les médecins peuvent convertir les crédits obtenus au titre du programme de MDC du Collège royal en crédits de catégorie 1 de l’AMA PRAMC. National Eye Review Program
The 2019 one-day annual National Review Course will review highly pertinent pearls for less common conditions that are still encountered in our everyday comprehensive and subspecialty practices.
Target Audience
This is a course for expert ophthalmologists delivered by expert ophthalmologists.
CPD Credits
Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, is fully accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME), a subcommittee of the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS). This standard allows CPD to review and assess educational activities based on the criteria established by The College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
As a result of a reciprocal agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, The American Medical Association, and The European Union for Medical Specialties (EUMS), CPD is permitted to assign respective credits.

Imaging and Glaucoma

This module will consist of a practical and interactive session reviewing the basic and more advanced aspects of ocular coherence tomography (OCT) of the optic nerve. We will review a standardized approach to the optic nerve imaging printout and discuss straightforward cases of glaucoma diagnosis, common false positives and artifacts, as well as non-glaucomatous causes of abnormal optic nerve imaging. The same will be done for progression analyses.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Compare the advantages and disadvantages of optic nerve imaging versus optic nerve photography
- Evaluate an optic nerve imaging printout for the purpose of diagnosis of glaucoma
- Evaluate an optic nerve imaging printout for the purpose of progression of glaucoma

CPD CREDITS
This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. Physicians may claim a maximum of 1.5 Section 1 credits.
Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 credits. Information on the process to convert Royal College MOC credit to AMA credit.
Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the learning activity.

Premium Cataract Surgery Knowledge Challenge
The Premium Cataract Surgery Knowledge Challenge is an interactive game that challenges ophthalmic surgeons to an educational mission. The game is focused on the modern premium cataract surgery suite, new innovative technologies and the skills necessary to take practices to the next level.
Target Audience
The game is targeted at ophthalmologists who specialize in cataract and refractive surgery.
Players can proceed through the modules to test their knowledge on premium cataract procedures and earn badges and trophies as they progress and play through the game. The game tracks the progress through each module.
Once the player is finished a module, the next module will be unlocked. The 5 modules contain expert insight from leading ophthalmologists in the following areas:

Cataract Surgery: Telling It Like It Is
The Cataract Surgery: Telling It Like It Is Annual Meeting provides cutting-edge education unrestricted by the current CME guidelines. It will take place from February 6-10, 2019 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida and expects to attract more than 600 attendees, 100 exhibitors and 60 meeting and wet lab sponsors.
Target Audience
The program is relevant and aimed at providing basic to advanced instruction for both experienced ophthalmologists as well as residents in training. This meeting has been designed for ophthalmologists and residents/students.
