What Scares You, Scares Me Too
Presented by Lesya Shuba, MD, PhD, FRCSC
This module will consist of interactive discussion of clinical cases, allowing participants to discuss some challenging clinical scenarios in glaucoma. Participants will have a chance to review common features of glaucoma as opposed to other optic neuropathies, discuss unusual cases of inflammatory glaucoma, the diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas of glaucoma in high myopic individuals, and the challenges of dealing with pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma, among others. The clinical cases presented in this module were selected to generate discussion, with several particularities of the cases highlighting the “beyond the evidence” general theme for this program, where no clear right or wrong answer exists.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the differential diagnosis of optic neuropathy
- Review inflammatory glaucomas and how to correctly diagnose and treat them
- Discuss pearls and pitfalls of OCT imaging in glaucoma
- Management of pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma
- Discuss clues and management for conditions masquerading as glaucoma

11th Biennial Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Conference
Hosted by the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine.
Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus are complex subjects. These subspecialties span across so many subjects that staying abreast of developments and optimal practice is a challenge. We meet every two years, to refresh and update our understanding and approach to the management of practical problems in the field.
This year in Vancouver we will address many issues, including Pediatric Ocular trauma, OCT in pediatric ophthalmology, Childhood onset retinal dystrophies, Duane Syndrome, Sagging Eye Syndrome and allergic eye disease.
Once again we have gathered a group of superb speakers, leaders in the fields of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology as well as ocular genetics. Our invited guests and local faculty will share their knowledge and insights with us over this two-day conference. We strive to provide a relaxed environment fostering good fellowship and interaction, with every opportunity for lively discussion.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the Biennial Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Conference 2019, participants will be able to:
- Learn about potential OCT indications in Pediatric Ophthalmology
- Understand strabismus disorders such as the sagging eye syndrome
- Recognize syndromic conditions associated with childhood retinal dystrophies
- Differentiate different causes of anisocoric in the pediatric setting
- Understand the spectrum of sudden visual loss in childhood
- Recognize indications and techniques for pediatric contact lens fitting
Target Audience
This program has been designed to meet the educational needs of ophthalmologists, other physicians & orthoptists
