EPSAA Scientific Meeting

The Eye Physicians and Surgeons Association of Alberta (EPSAA) will host the Scientific Meeting on February 12, 2022 in a digital format, from 08:00 to 12:30. Featured speakers include Dr. Nupura Bakshi, an assistant professor from the University of Toronto (specialty Retina & Uveitis), and Dr. Marie-Claude Robert, a professeure adjointe de clinique from Université de Montréal – CHUM (specialty Cornea & External Disease).

The 2022 Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta Annual Scientific Meeting is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1), as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and was approved by the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. Physicians may claim a maximum of 4 hours.

Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the learning activity.

Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. COSIG – Virtual Introductory Student Course in Ophthalmology (VISCO) 2022

Dates: June 19, June 26, July 10, July 17, July 24, August 7 

VISCO is a free virtual ophthalmology course that aims to increase accessibility to expert ophthalmology knowledge, no matter what stage you are in your medical training.

The course is composed of two parts:

  1. six weekly workshops presented by ophthalmology faculty and residents across Canada, and
  2. a high-yield structured reading guide using curated resources that is meant to provide background knowledge to supplement the workshops.

During the course, you will have opportunities to win prizes and learn ophthalmology from incredible teachers.

The content and objectives of this course are based on a curated list of learning objectives endorsed by Canadian Undergraduate Medical Education Leads in Ophthalmology and reference resources from the Association of University Professors in Ophthalmology (AUPO) and the Medical Council of Canada (MCC).
By participating in these workshops, participants can claim Section 2 credits in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Each video reviewed can be claimed for 0.5 credits.

Mindfulness & Compassion Certificate Training

The Mindfulness and Compassion training that is co-facilitated by Agnes Wong, MD, PhD, FRCSC will be offered again in January 2022. It consists of 5-weekend modules spread over 9 months that are entirely online.

Learning Objectives

The course provides guidance and support for healthcare professionals to cultivate mindfulness, compassion, and self-compassion. It also covers essential topics, including systems thinking, non-violent communication, and integrity, that are critical for our well-being as we work in a highly complex healthcare environment. It is also an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded people to share their experiences and learn and grow together in a supportive and safe environment.

Several colleagues participated in this course this past year, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

Description: The Royal College has recently added quality improvement (QI) activities to its Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Framework, enabling fellows to earn MOC credits for their improvement initiatives. In this webinar, we will review the spectrum of QI work that is eligible for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit, and future plans for the Framework and Royal College QI support.

Learning Objectives:


At the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
•discuss the wide range of improvement projects that are eligible for MOC credits
•summarize the planned changes to the MOC framework
•describe the QI support that the Royal College intends to provide for its Fellows
