Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the Toronto Cataract Conference (TCC) scheduled for Saturday, February 5, 2022, will be held online instead of in person. The online conference will be free of charge however pre-registration is required. Register here for online access.

Our group of surgeons will present challenging cases and discuss pearls in management.

 Section 2. IOL Challenges

A rapid-fire case-based discussion on challenging IOL calculations and selection.

Objectives:

• Work through challenging and controversial cases in a case-based interactive format.
• Understand medico-legal ramifications of cataract surgery delivery in Canada.
• Leverage new technology to improve cataract outcomes.
• Approach and manage comorbidities presenting with cataract.

VISCO is a free virtual ophthalmology course that aims to increase accessibility to expert ophthalmology knowledge, no matter what stage you are in your medical training.

The course is composed of two parts:

1. six weekly workshops presented by ophthalmology faculty and residents across Canada, and
2. a high-yield structured reading guide using curated resources that is meant to provide background knowledge to supplement the workshops.

During the course, you will have opportunities to win prizes and learn ophthalmology from incredible teachers.

The content and objectives of this course are based on a curated list of learning objectives endorsed by Canadian Undergraduate Medical Education Leads in Ophthalmology and reference resources from the Association of University Professors in Ophthalmology (AUPO) and the Medical Council of Canada (MCC).
By participating in these workshops, participants can claim Section 2 credits in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Each video reviewed can be claimed for 0.5 credits.

The Mindfulness and Compassion training that is co-facilitated by Agnes Wong, MD, PhD, FRCSC will be offered again in January 2022. It consists of 5-weekend modules spread over 9 months that are entirely online.

Learning Objectives

The course provides guidance and support for healthcare professionals to cultivate mindfulness, compassion, and self-compassion. It also covers essential topics, including systems thinking, non-violent communication, and integrity, that are critical for our well-being as we work in a highly complex healthcare environment. It is also an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded people to share their experiences and learn and grow together in a supportive and safe environment.

Several colleagues participated in this course this past year, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
